Oh, I don't think Clarke lied. I said I thought it was a stretch. My guess is the decision was a great deal more complicated than belonging to Clarke. You must remember about Clarke what everyone says, that he's not an easy person to work with. My guess is he was issuing orders right and left those days. I just doubt he had the authority, by the 13th or 14th, to countermand the FBI. I suspect he did on the 11th, when he was the communication center.

Let me catch that fat bastard in a lie just once. Mike

Well, I doubt you would be able to do anything quite so dramatic. But there is much to argue about his interpretation of the bin Laden family connection to the Bush's. I read Unger's book on that point. Assume the truth of his claims for the moment and those claims are the basis of Moore's argument in the film, it's still a stretch to get as close to a full fledged conspiracy argument, at least on that point, as Moore does. But he sets up an interesting conversation.

Ditto for Moore's point about the Unocal (I think that's the company name) pipeline through Afghanistan. There is a good bit of material on this point in the Ghost Warriors book.

On both these points, one can make the point of overlapping interests, and make it easily. But it's much harder to make the conspiracy point. However, conspiracy points generate interesting conversations.
