I think the problem with our oil dependency is that the only way to solve it is to tax the crap out of gasoline, and neither party is going to run on that ... It is absolutely impossible to get elected by advocating an additional $1.50 a gallon on gasoline tax. The oil companies and auto companies (and auto unions) would hammer whoever proposed that, as would joe six-pack.
