My uncle was a Battalion Commander and his Executive Officer's book documents that the media egged troopers on to say for example cut off the ear of a dead NVA soldier to show how tough he was. Then the media would present it as a daily routine occurrence when it was not. The book documents some SVA activities that were going way overboard for which his battalion was providing armored security for during the operation. When he saw what the SVA were doing, he pulled his security forces out to force them to stop.
