Actually, Moore is right about that. Americans know far less about the world outside our country than they should. for instance, if you go anywhere in the world, you'll find people who know only know about our presidential politics, but even our senators and mayors, etc. But here only a few percent could even name the leaders of our closest allies. Few understand the world and the rightwing has played to that ignorance in order to manipulate zenophobia (is that the right word?) fear of outsiders/foreigners.
Just watch the CNN international edition for a few hours, then switch to say American Fox News with its "30 seconds around the world" (is it 30 seconds?). As if only what happens in the US is important. Well guess what, we are all interconnected now, and many things know no borders, including terrorism, pollution, disease, ignorance.
So thje question is, why would you criticize Moore for saying what is exactly true? Americans need to understand the world better, especially before they get behind major wars against countries which did not attack us. |
