As for the 'right wing attack machine', yes there was some over the top stuff during the Clinton years, but Bush was not involved and I don't remember the RNC standing behind fringe elements. Rather they stood behind Bob Dole.

You might wish to pass this along to John McCain, after Rove and Bush trashed him in the SC primary; or Valerie Plame after Bush operatives outed her as a CIA agent; or, the list just goes on and on.
