Intel has a great way of having as many irons in the fire as possible. When its time they will either do it on their own or if it's cost effective buy the technology, patents, and marketshare elsewhere.Although the VTEL/CLI marriage hurts the sharevalue now the long term reward will be the business being generated in China and elsewhere.

As medical long-distance technology becomes better its demand will increase and sales in vidioconferencing equipment will increase.
In today's "Boston Globe" EG&G announced the introduction of digital technology to be used specifically for telemedicine applications.This type of news would have never made it to the popular press a few years ago.
