Cardiac Science Shares Jump 35 Percent on FDA Approval of Automated External Defibrillator

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) -- Shares of Cardiac Science Inc. soared 35 percent to $3.33 in early-morning trading Friday after the medical device maker said the Food and Drug Administration cleared its automated external defibrillator for commercial sale.

The company said its Powerheart G3 defibrillator, which received patent protection last December, is designed for use by consumers with no medical training both at home and in public places.
