John, you've got the business model ALL WRONG. Understanding the economics of the semiconductor business and Intel's model in particular requires you to appraoch the world a little differently than most businesses. I'd love to explain it but fear that it would require many pages of text to do so effectively with no guarantee that we'd "connect" on the concepts. Perhaps you should give me a call sometime 408-765-9785 (be patient as I get a lot of phone calls) and we can discuss how the business works.

In the meantime, try to figure out how our guidance for Q3'97 can include items like:

1. Flat to down GM% from 60.7% in Q2'97. Full Year '97 expected to be 60% +/- a few points and, based on our current view, expected to be at the mid to high part of that range.
2. Revenues flat to slightly up from the $6.0B in Q2'97

while trying to make your above assumptions hold true. You'll see that there are some conflicts in your reasoning.

Regards,
John Hull
