Yes, but fundamentalist Christians do not recognize women as equals. The republican party has been taken over by the fundamentalists, which largely opposed the ERA.

These fundamentalists deeply believe that the woman is inferior, and that belief is one of the major roadblocks to women achieving true equality. In fact I know many fundamentalist Christian women that accept that position as their rightful place in the eyes of god.

So if it's onward and upward that you wish for todays women, then you ought to be supporting the Democrats. With the fundamentalist republican party you're going to see an attempt to reverse women's rights or at least to stall them out.

I see many parallels between the fundamentalist republican Christians and the fundamentalist Muslims, one of those is to presuppose the inferiority of women.
