Dear Hippy, Dippy Blowhard Demoncrat,

It's pretty clear that you don't know any more about aircraft than you read in your 'Super Hillary' comic book...

The F-102 was our front-line, supersonic fighter-interceptor for a long period of time. The design has carried forward in Saab designs such as the Viggen and the Draken home.iae.nl & zap16.com & zap16.com, as it has with the Froggy's Mirage series aerospaceweb.org.

Burt Rutans VariViggen, which preceded the VariEze and LonEze's series of kit-planes, were also extensions of this high performance delta-wing design. You do remember Burt Rutan don't you - the fellow who designed-built the 'round-the-world-nonstop' Voyager and SpaceShipOne & White Knight carrier.....

Convair F-102 "Delta Dagger"

The primary mission of the F-102 was to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft. It was the world's first supersonic all-weather jet interceptor and the USAF's first operational delta-wing aircraft. The F-102 made its initial flight on Oct. 24, 1953 and became operational with the Air Defense Command in 1956. At the peak of deployment in the late 1950's, F-102s equipped more than 25 ADC squadrons. Convair built 1,000 F-102s, 875 of which were F-102As. The USAF also bought 111 TF-102s as combat trainers with side-by-side seating.
In a wartime situation, after electronic equipment on board the F-102 had located the enemy aircraft, the F-102's radar would guide it into position for attack. At the proper moment, the electronic fire control system would automatically fire the F-102's air-to-air rockets and missiles.

The YF-102A was a major redesign of the YF-102. To overcome high drag loads at transonic speeds, Convair engineers redesigned the fuselage and wing. The fuselage design used the "area-rule" which resulted in the characteristic "coke bottle" shape.

John :-)

ps: GDubya can fly and fight an F-102...!!! ...Can you get so much as a "..Cessna-150.." off the ground and back on again by yourself - without wrecking the plane, killing yourself, and potentially taking out anyone else in the immediate vacinity...?!?
