I take complete exception to your criticism of w_stera02. One of the better and more intelligent posters on these threads, I'd say. Much better than most he spars with. I have to conclude those remarks are due totally to personal animosity. I would tend to believe you were one of his sparring partners who got his head handed to him.

Other than that, not bad.

Yes, politics in the last decade or so has gotten much more divisive. There are fewer and fewer in the middle ground. Politicians are either saints or devils and which they are depends on what ground you stand on.

back in Nixon's era, plenty of Republicans could see fault
Yes. I did not vote for Nixon (nor McGovern) in '72. There was quite enough evidence out by the election to conclude something had gone seriously awry in the WH.

In one way, I think your analysis misses an important point: Clinton made Bush. His misdeeds created a reaction that was absolutely determined to throw the bums out.

no wonder the difference in approval ratings between register Repubs and Dems is so wide, wider than at any time in US history
it started with Clinton, who promoted tribalism extremes

Or maybe you do see it, but in a slightly different way.

due to such tribalism, Clinton supporters got rabid during the impeachment proceedings and during the Starr Special Prosecutor process
Clinton supporters see no wrong, not even sale of pardons, not theft of White House property, not campaign fund violations, not lying to the public
it has become a lower level tribal affair

Yes. And now Bush supporters see no problem with a preemptive war that turns out to have been based on false premises. Or that no heads roll because of that.

I even hear of liberals saying "it is payback time"
Why do you think liberals are exempt from such thinking? Whatever would make that thought enter your head?

I am unimpressed with Kerry
I am unbelievably unimpressed and betrayed by Bushy

Yeah. And there's an election coming up. What's your plan?

I still own a button from 1976 -- IMPEACH NIXON
I'M JEALOUS!

But let's tone down the personal attacks on w_stera02.
