the people who decide what's true and false and tell the rest of us about it (the media) have decided Saddam's WMD's were just a lie by the Bush administration and it won't matter how many WMD's we find.
I would like to point out that many people whose political leanings are not liberal have decided that pre-war intelligence about Saddam's WMD were not a lie, but a mistake, due to massive intelligence failures, including the Senate Intelligence Committee, which will be issuing a report to that effect this week, maybe Wednesday, and high ranking Republican members of the Senate Armed Services Committee concur in that assessment.
It is well known that Saddam had WMD prior to the first Gulf War, because he used them during the Iran-Iraq war.
So far, what has been found is old WMD dating back to the Iran-Iraq war which are extremely deteriorated, although still dangerous.
But that wasn't what Bush, Rice, Powell, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Tenet, etc., were talking about when they laid out the case for war.
Even William F. Buckley says that if he had known before the war what we know now about Saddam's WMD, he would not have supported the war. No liberal he.
I would like to see a commission called to investigate the intelligence failures, but don't expect Bush to do it soon, as it would be deadly to his re-election chances. It's a political hot potato that will have to be taken up sooner or later.
I could be wrong, evidence of a continuing WMD production program could still be found, although it seems less and less likely, especially since the handover. If I am right, eventually even you will give up hope, and feel embarrassed that you pinned your hopes on a few leftover old shells. Or maybe not. |
