Actually, they mostly made training films, although I suppose some propaganda films were involved. I don't see anything weong with creating films to help keep up morale in fighting the Nazis. He was, in fact, the intelligence officer. For example, he was privy to the raw footage taken as the extermination camps were opened. It upset him so much that he got into a brawl with someone over an anti- semitic remark the other fellow made, and quit his country club after enquiring about their policy in admitting Jews.

Reagan was not "instrumental" in McCarthyism, and I cannot recall an instance when he had anything to do with McCarthy himself, but he did fight Communist control of the Screen Actor's Guild, and he testified about his experiences once before the House UnAmerican Activities Committee.
