Tuesday, July 6, 2004: Bush Touts McCain, Mocks Edwards as Kerry's Second Choice
That new TV ad for President Bush featuring John McCain points out that John Edwards is John Kerry's second choice as a running mate.
In the commercial, titled "First Choice," Sen. McCain praises the president he sometimes clashes with. "He has not wavered, he has not flinched from the hard choices, he was determined and remains determined to make this world a better, safer, freer place. He deserves not only our support but our admiration."

And: "America is under attack by depraved enemies who oppose our every interest and hate every value we hold dear. It is the great test of our generation, and he has led with great moral clarity and firm resolve." As the Associated Press noted today: "Last month, McCain - Bush's rival for the GOP presidential nomination in 2000 - rejected the notion of a bipartisan ticket with Kerry, and shortly thereafter appeared with Bush."
The Republican National Committee said: "John Kerry was against John Edwards before he was for him. But now he's his running mate. Who is John Edwards? A disingenuous, unaccomplished liberal and friend to personal injury trial lawyers."
