give it away for 100 or so. then license workstation versions for around the same cost as win 95 (or is it 98 now<g>).

apple needs to be making EVERY effort to get the OS out. personally, i think the hardware rom is a bad idea. MSFT loses more in piracy on its SW that apple makes in profits every year. but they arent hurting from it. valuations would be much higher if apple could make the transition to a software company and outsource/spin off the hardware divisions. IBM lost not because of the decision not to buy MS DOS from MSFT and buy the processors from intel. it lost because it was greedy and thought that it could dictate the market to the consumer. they shoudl have been better cloners, imho.

to be honest, i dont care if they loose money for the next two quarters if they are doing what it takes for long term sucess. hell, i could stomach them GIVING away the SW for a while to build market share. windows sells to OEMs for less than 50 a copy and the prices are going to increase. margins and volume are the keys to MSFTs success, and they could be the keys to apples as well.

Thanks for putting down what i could not. when i mentioned failures in the past i was talking about pricing out of the market. apple has lost the war for the high desktop (in volume and profit terms), but it could easily win the next step...sub-$1000 machines.

good luck to all,
trey
