DJ, more evidence that Mq was right, way back in 1987, that CO2 is a good thing in the atmosphere: newscientist.com

As CO2 was stripped from the atmosphere and was permanently buried in coal and hydrocarbon and limestone, Earth was dying. Hence the onslaught of the ice age, with gradually increasing glaciations as more CO2 is stripped and carbon buried.

With more C02, crops will be producing like crazy. Yields will be up around the world and people can worry about obesity instead of starvation. I know which is a better problem to have. One can always choose not to shove more tucker down one's gullet if obesity isn't attractive. But it's hard to choose to eat if there isn't any food and what there is costs too much to buy.

With average temperatures up a degree or two, yields will also increase due to better chemical reactions. It must be annoying being a plant and trying to grow with freezing air blowing around - some have such a hard time of it they give up altogether and go deciduous, waiting for spring to try again.

CO2 is good stuff. Bring it on!

If we get a LOT of it, people will be more healthy on average because they'll have to reduce their smoking. Those of us who don't smoke will be okay too. There is so little highly aerobic manual labour, or need for maximum oxygen uptake, to run away from predators for example, that more CO2 is no bad thing. Normal human lungs can cope easily as they are designed for a LOT of physical activity.

Don't forget the little plants at the bottom of the food chain - they can't make their leaves bigger because they don't have leaves. Message 19260666 BTW, the Atkins diet fad has boosted demand for NZ meat and increased prices. Thanks Mr Atkins [RIP].
