Wow, Amy. I bet Home Depot figured this was free advertising that caters directly to those who shop most at Home Depot: slavering males. :)
I agree that objectifying women creates problems for women in the work force, but it's going to be tough for society to emasculate men enough to suppress their desire for women in any shape, form, or venue they can get them. So as long as the world allows healthy males to exist, you'll have those males lusting after women, and the advertising that caters to them. Of course, the politically correct in California would have the world believing that heterosexual men are in the minority, but I assure you they are not. ;) In addition, most of the engineers I know are men. Doesn't mean women aren't as smart, but it does mean more men choosing engineering as a career than women. And engineers tend to be a little more on the brainy side, which means that pretty girls are something of a fascination. I know. I used to write code. :) So unfortunately for you and other women, sex sells and it sells big at engineering festivals. The only reason they don't have male bunnies is because no male engineer would come to that booth and that would hurt their marketing effort. It's all true. Sad, but true. LOL.
Just ribbing you a little. :> |
