SAMSys Announces Its Selection as RFID Reader Provider for METRO Group's Future Store SAMSys will participate in the RFID Solutions Team for the METRO Group's RFID Supply Chain Rollout, which begins in November, 2004
TORONTO, July 7 /CNW/ - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY: TSX), an international provider of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) hardware solutions and consulting services today announced its selection and participation in the METRO Group's RFID Solution Team for its Future Store Initiative. METRO Group has selected various RFID partners which will be involved with hardware, software, integration and installation services relative to its previously announced mandate for its top suppliers to begin shipping cases and pallets to METRO Group's selected distribution centers and outlets by November of this year. SAMSys will immediately begin the manufacturing of the anticipated requirements for this rollout, and has already integrated its readers into the METRO Group's RFID Innovation Center located in Neuss, Germany, where it will present its solutions to its top suppliers from today onwards. "We are thrilled to have been selected as a reader solution for this industry advancing initiative," stated Cliff Horwitz, chairman and chief executive officer of SAMSys. "We have been working with the METRO Group for quite some time and have provided training, consulting and testing of our EPC reader technology as they have explored many alternatives. Clearly, the solution works and it now moves the process forward - from "planning" to "implementation". It is indeed a very exciting time for the RFID industry, as a whole, as we begin to witness the progression from limited pilot projects to scaled deployment." SAMSys joins other RFID hardware and software companies as a partner on a team that will bring about the reality of RFID for METRO Group. Other such selected companies include among others Philips Semiconductors, IBM, Checkpoint, Avery Dennison, Intermec and UPM Rafsec. This team will meet regularly with the project management team of METRO Group in order to meet the timetables and guidelines for this November implementation. "We are pleased to have SAMSys on the RFID Solutions Team" stated Dr. Gerd Wolfram, Executive Project Manager of the METRO Group Future Store Initiative. "We require a reader that will handle the demands of a portals installation, and complies with both the current and future ETSI European RF standards. The SAMSys reader has demonstrated all these to our satisfaction, allowing us to move forward with our RFID plans." SAMSys will provide METRO Group its MP9329 V2.7 reader, which operates as an agile multi-frequency, multi-protocol UHF reader and is approved for frequency and power settings in both the United States and Europe. It will be deployed with the Philips Semiconductor EPC 1.19 chip-based tag, as selected by METRO Group. SAMSys is the originator of the agile multi-frequency, multi- protocol and multi-regional UHF reader architecture, which is fast becoming accepted as the standard for supply chain solutions. It operates company-owned sales offices out of Ontario, Canada; North Carolina, USA; and the United Kingdom. |
