Comparing the axis powers to Iraq is getting really old- since it is such a lame comparison.

I didn't hear Neocon say anything about Axis powers, but I did read his posts to specifically mention Germany.

A niggle, I know, but it's best to be accurate.

And while you may consider the comparison lame, not everyone agrees with you. In fact, not thinking of 1991 Iraq in such terms is in my opinion foolish--I don't want to use your "lame" as the term is a bit insulting.

Like WWII Germany, Iraq under Saddam was expansionist. If he had been allowed to take over Kuwait, he could have gone on to develop the nuclear weapons he was so close to to developing when he invaded Kuwait--it was just a matter of months before they were ready. Armed with nukes and with his troops at Saudi Arabia's border, the comparison to Germany would have appropriately been made by even the least imaginative. He could have easily deterred any significant response against him.

It would have supreme folly to have allowed him to stay in Kuwait as I think you suggest would have been appropriate.
