You conveniently left out this interesting part of the article Mr. Forrest.

But Robotics seems to have lost ground in the $1 billion market of selling remote access devices to ISPs. Robotics had hoped that by selling thousands of x2 modems to consumers, ISPs would be forced to buy remote access devices from Robotics.

But Duke said Robotics had 34.6 percent of the remote access market at the end of June, down from about 40 percent last year.

It now trails Ascend, which is in the Rockwell camp and has 40 percent of the remote access market.

ISPs at the trade show explained why Robotics didn't succeed in the second part of its market share strategy. They said it's easy for a consumer to switch modems because a modem only costs $120 to $200.

But remote access devices, the ``switchboards'' that patch modems into the Net, cost $15,000.

``We have millions invested in Ascend equipment and it wasn't worth it for us to switch to Robotics,'' said Jason Nealis of Virginia-based Erol's Internet, which has about 280,000 subscribers.

BTW, A$ND is the greatest growth stock of the 90's!
