Your comments give me pause for thought. Although every life is precious there are probably at least 50,000 deaths annually related to drunk drivers. in most wars millions of people die. as far as wars go this has been relatively good.
in fact I dont think many americans were killed in the war at all. this is no longer a war, this is now an occupying force meeting with terrorist resistance. This is what the Israelis have been dealing with for decades. On the other hand it is preferable to fight terrorist in Iraq rather than in the U.S. We are sacrificing lives and increasing our debt, because we are now stuck there and have no options. No thought was given as to how we were going to get out once we got in before we commenced the military action. We were like the good guys in a John Wayne movie and we got to protect our Saudi Allies at the same time. Only now it looks like there is a substantial portion of the Iraqui population that would like us to leave, and perhaps we are only going to prop up some totalitarian regime in Saudi Arabia that would fall if we had no massive force nearby.
Oops! Quite a dilemmma, I wonder if the decisions would have been different if we had a president and vp unconnected to either the oil industry or saudia arabia.
