You're deluded. Kerry is one of the centrists. Pelosi, Kennedy and Dean are clearly to the left of him. Kerry was endorsed by most of the centrist democrats like Feinstein, Ford, Biden, plus Kennedy. Most of his support comes from the strong common sense center which wants to unite the country in a bi-partisan way. That was also the logic behind the McCain VP idea.

You can pretty much separate liberal anbd centrist between who voted for the war powers act and who didn't. Kerry and Edwards did. Pelosi and Kennedy didn't. No real liberal would have voted to give Bush those war powers.

The rightwing has been totally exaggerating the "leftist" qualities of democrats. It's their scare tactic and it's very dishonest. In their propaganda spin all democrats no matter how moderate become "leftists" and all Republicans are "conservatives". Yet the truth is that about one third of the leadership is in the middle. What we need in this country is centrist leadership, neither right nor left.
Bush-Cheney advertised themselves as moderated in 2000 but went straight to the far right after grabbing power. They have stayed there ever since despite a few insincere social spending programs they've put out but never done any work on. That includes No Child Left Behind and the AIDS initiative which they have not even funded. The Medicare Bill is another fake program. It's law now but it needs a total overhaul as almost nobody bu the drug companies and HMO's likes it and Bushies lied about its cost, leaving out 135 billion to sell it.
