Personally, I think (just my opinion only!!!) that Ashcroft is a consummate self-serving politician. He has jailed lots of guys with M.E. looks and strange-sounding names without trial largely because that's the in-thing for him to do and which makes him popular with his supporters --- largely bigots like himself. (He once had the Ten Commandments inscribed on stone tablets placed in front of a court house in his riding in a city in the Bible Belt where his supporters abound! Go figure!) And he and Tom Ridge have been scaring Americans periodically with terror threats:-
