Hardly makes the guy a crazy fool though, does it? I think I owe you a thank you for supporting my position on that :-) And if he had known the US was going to invade, he probably could have started something else to distract the country. I think if we had said "If you invade Kuwait, we WILL destroy you" or something along those lines, he probably wouldn't have invaded- I think that would have been all the 2X4 one would have needed. What has been argued here is that Saddam was crazy and that he wasn't deterrable- I don't happen to think that is true, and I think it is important going forward to realize that if we had understood Saddam better we could have saved a lot of money, and stopped ourselves from taking a huge gamble in the ME. It will be a good lesson for other conflicts.
