$1500 is a great price. It's just not quite a consumer price. Too bad CUBE announced that this would replace its current family before it was in volume production. It is significant that this codec encodes not only the main profile@main level used by DVD and DSS, but also the higher resolution main profile@high level, which results in up to 1152 lines/frame, 60 frames/sec, and 80 Mbits/sec (without a variable bit rate encoder). in contrast, main profile@main level used for DVD has to 576 lines/frame, 30 frames/sec, and 15Mbits/sec (without VBR). This is one kick-butt codec! Maybe this is what CagEnt uses in its boards.
