Michael Moore should be charged with and tried for treason. His latest film, ''Fahrenheit 9/11,'' is pure anti-American propaganda and is nothing more than a fictitionally based political assassination piece. The intent of this film is for it to be the equivalent of Spain's 3/11 terrorist attack.
Director Moore has admitted as much on numerous occasions, citing his opposition to the War on Terror and his desire to destroy the Bush presidency. He has even gone so far as to praise the terrorists who are killing America's soldiers, likening them to our nation's Revolutionary forefathers. Michael Moore's film seeks not only to alter the outcome of the 2004 presidential election, but to undermine our nation's war effort. That, in itself, fits the very definition of treason.
Were this film to have been produced by Al-Jazeera, it would be dismissed as nothing more than anti-American propaganda. However, since it will be viewed by our enemies around the world as an American product, endorsed and blessed by the liberal establishment in this country, it will be considered factually correct as most films labeled as documentaries are. The Arab street will see this film and become further inflamed in its hatred and distrust for our country. During a time of war, the actions of Michael Moore not only hurt our cause, but also provide psychological aid to our enemies. They will become emboldened as he seeks to weaken our resolve.
Merriam-Webster defines treason as ''a betrayal of trust'' and ''the offense of attempting by overt acts to overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the sovereign's family.'' Michael Moore's ''documentary'' fits all of those definitions. His film is riddled with outright lies and mistruths, seemingly well documented, and designed to utilize those mistruths to influence the minds of the voting public. What's particularly disconcerting is how the liberal media and the film industry continue to label this film a ''documentary'' while gushing over this overt act of treason. A documentary is generally believed to be based on fact and tends to be unbiased. Moore's film actually fits the definition of propaganda, which is defined as ''ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause.''
Free speech in this country is recognized as one of our greatest freedoms. However, with free speech comes great responsibility. A person's right to free speech is not protected if that speech inflicts harm or damage on others. Michael Moore crosses the line with ''Fahrenheit 9/11.'' The simple fact that this film has earned the endorsement of the terrorist group Hezbollah seems not to faze Moore's choir on the left. These same people, our fellow citizens, have allowed themselves to become so blinded by their hatred for President Bush that they refuse to acknowledge the blatant mistruths in Moore's propaganda.
Our country has become so concerned with being ''politically correct,'' that the rights and freedoms of suspected terrorists or those of a treasonous movie director supersede our nation's efforts to protect itself from further harm. Will we see future footage of a masked terrorist, holding in one hand the severed head of an American captive and in the other a copy of ''Fahrenheit 9/11''?
Once again, it's time for the silent majority in this country to take a stand for right versus wrong. Do not allow the treachery of the left to bring our troops home in shame and dishonor, as they did during the Vietnam War. I urge all Americans to contact their elected representatives as well as Attorney General John Ashcroft and demand that this treason from the left be met head on. Do not allow the left to betray our country and our troops again. Shame on Michael Moore, who spits on the country that has given him so much.
