The Jews were mostly European and so had better educated, modern in their thinking, and more importantly had better management...Finally, just because the Pals were too backwards to behave properly, it did not mean Israelis could not bring them forward if they had really wanted to do so.
Now the Israelis are faulted for not "taking on the white man's burden"?
Why don't the Palestinians ever have a responsibility for any damn thing? Well, they're not paragons of virtue, you will admit, but the mere fact that the Arabs outnumber the Jews by about 50 to 1 and repeatedly have tried to kill them, and still loudly proclaim their fervent wish to do so, mustn't be allowed to influence Israeli behavior a bit. Because why? Because the Israelis are the 'advanced Europeans' with a big advantage.
Sometimes it really amazes me how much the supposedly anti-colonialist arguments of the modern Left sound exactly like the racist, colonialist arguments of the Victorian age. Both agree that the little brown peoples of the earth are not fit to take responsibility for themselves in any civilized manner.
And why this argument is only supposed to apply to the heirs of Islamic civilization, but not the heirs of East Asian civilization, who have done quite well for themselves lately, thank you, is another unanswered question. |
