"and considering how shallow your questions were and how obvious it was you hadn't actually read my post very carefully if at all"
I just re-read it, and the questions may seem shallow to you, but they are legit questions I had, along with my observation about how your post came across. This is how I clarify what's written.
To this:
"1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. ""
I asked : What did the midianites do to get the wrath of God? Was it indiscriminate, and just at a whim?
Shallow to you, I guess. But is a question I had.
And you ended with this:
"I've had this conversation with Christian Conservatives on this thread and they've said, "God knows best, if he wanted those people killed then it was the right thing to do." They condone killing in the name of God, something you've said you and i should agree is very bad."
To which I asked: "But is sounds like you think today's Christians condone genocide. Do you?"
It sounds like you do because you phrase a command by God as killing in "the name of God". I know you are too smart to think those are the same. Hence it looks like you think Christians today condone genocide. Easy enough to clear up, but here we are a bunch of post later getting nowhere. It is as I have stated before I believe. You like to play word games. You use words to convey something (that Christians condone genocide?) that are not in perfect context. Now I would argue that getting the word from God is different than killing in the name of God. An argument could be made that God didn't really tell Moses anything, and that Moses just believed he did. But you purposely mix up your verbage to sell your view. You are pretty good at it imo. I think you know you are doing it.
To understand your true views better (and to counteract your strategy) I ask specific questions. That you won't answer them, but only insult me for asking them (you didn't read my post, your questions are shallow, etc.) is telling to me.
So again, don't answer them if you don't want to. And if you want to have a conversation (as you say that you do), then you will need to answer my questions, and of course I will answer yours.
All that said, I don't think you want to have a conversation. You want to tell me your views. No questions allowed.
Have a good one. |
