We are rapidly going to full body armor. Stars Wars type. It will be molded to the individual and made to order. Function like an outer skin.

And then we've come full circle. Warriors used to fight naked. Then the zenith of the armored warrior was the European gothic knight in full field plate. Firearms put an end to armor's usefullness, but with new space age materials, everything old is new again. US troops really will be "stormtroopers". Wolfowitz can be Darth Neocon. Instead of a helmet, he wears a yarmulkah.
