"The result is that uncounted thousands across Europe were executed by secular authorities without fair trials or a competent assessment of the validity of the charge."
Uncounted, indeed...
Like a charge of heresy or witchcraft could ever have validity!!--LOL!! This "Madden" fellow admits to the torture and murder but still pretends that the charge of heresy may be (and was) legitimately considered so long as the trial is/was fair?? Send that idiot back to the burning times!
Witches and heretics should have a fair trial. Yes, indeed! This was the only fault of the Inquisition?...that they never ever ever had anything remotely resembling a legitimate "trial"! and that when they murdered people they also took all their assets which was the whole point! This was their only fault??!
It is really reprehensible when people try to justify such incredible torture and inhumanity.
"So, while medieval secular leaders were trying to safeguard their kingdoms, the Church was trying to save souls. The Inquisition provided a means for heretics to escape death and return to the community."
Who is re-writing this history, again?! I don't suppose it is another Catholic apologetics, is it!?--Ha! Ha! Ha! "The Church was trying to save souls", eh? Really?? Is that how you do it??
"From the perspective of secular authorities, heretics were traitors to God and the king and therefore deserved death."
Secular authorities were defending God?? This is one of the most lying, contemptible, prejudiced, and contrived papers I have ever read! Good for Madden. He excels himself! The Inquisition was just the Catholic Church trying to protect people from "secular" authorities who considered witches traitors to God!! Ah...Ha...so logical!!
It is true that secular groups were on the band-wagon, but they were not defending God--no more than anyone else. They were just getting their share of the loot. |
