I think you're right, but what puzzles me is the fact that the intelligence failures appear to have been world wide, shared by European intelligence agencies and the Russians, long before Bush even became president, long before 9/11.
Eventually they will walk back the cat, or in this case a herd of cats. Cats are notoriously difficult to herd, so this may take time, or it may be that the upcoming election causes both Democrats and Republicans to resist searching for the truth.
It may reflect badly on Bush, which Republicans will hate, it may reflect badly on others, e.g., Clinton's CIA, which Democrats will hate.
As it stands now, both sides can revel in ambiguity and shout "yah! yah!" at each other. |
