Angela, with the Merril analyst in question, looking for reasons...ugghh!...[that was me hitting my head against my desk]...he's been baffling me ever since I started trying to understand chip issues...and he still does.

Not sure if the Gruntal analyst is Mona Eriba (sp?), but my only data point on her is that she had the sense to have MU as a hold when Kurlak had it as a short-term buy...which gets points in my book <g>

The thing about TXN is that it's NOT just a DRAM maker and it's been pretty successful in pushing it's earnings stream towards its diversified products, primarily its DSP's. I'm assuming the Merrill/Kurlak downgrade had a good deal to with persisting problems of overcapacity in the global DRAM market, which has muted any significant price recovery in the 16Mb chips and lead to erosion in the next generation 64Mb chips.

I stayed away from it today only because, right or wrong, the guy has a following. Will throw out anything I come across.

Good trading,

Tom
