Don, apropos the meaning of the "right / left" etc nomenclature, I wrote this the other day.

Apropos the right of citizens to bear arms, which is a central feature of the US Bill of Rights, in South Africa this tacit right is in the process of being removed. Soon, in order to have a weapon one must have a Certificate of Competency issued by the government and at present they are not issuing any. If one is fortunate to be awarded such a certificate one will be able to have only one hand gun for personal protection. No "collector's pieces" or otherwise military ordinance and a rifle only if one is a member of a shooting club or is a registered "hunter". Further, it is regarded as a crime to use a "sports weapon" for self-defence even in an emergency. Clearly, our new, "democratic" ANC government is frightened about an armed citizenry, particularly whites at this stage, resisting be "democratized" as they have been in Zimbabwe. It looks like, in order to avoid being criminalized, I will simply have to give up my presently-licensed weapons although I have no idea how or to whom?
