That neither the President nor his National Security Advisor bothered to read the NIE is point one -- this is simply dereliction of duty. The second point is that the NIE report itself contained information necessary to reflect on the quality of the intel -- intel that even at that time had the feeling of thin ice. Instead of doing his job and recognizing how thin the ice was, Bush took the sweeping statement of Tenet "its a slam dunk" -- and we went to war. The fine Americans who are dying in Iraq deserve better than that -- much better.
