Well, the Neocons wanted Saddam gone, and Saddam is gone. Everybody got what they wanted, Chalabi, the Iraqi defectors, the Iranians, Bush, the Neocons.

You are not far from the truth. I have not read any reports on this, but it seems to me that US defeated two of Iran's major enemies in the region (Afghanistan and Iraq), while at the same time putting itself at the mercy of Ayatulah's (through the influence they can exert within these two countries) If I were Iran, I could not have asked for a better gift.
