US elections are already the most transparent and most scrutinized in the world. We don't need "observers" from the club of despots to ensure they are "free and fair". What's more, requesting official observers implies 1) that we can't administer clean elections on our own and 2) that the UN has standing to judge our electoral processes. Any member of congress saying such things deserves to be booted by the voters at the earliest opportunity.

If any American has a legitimate legal beef with elections anywhere in this country, they can and should take it up with state or federal courts where the cases will be addressed fairly and transparently.

And if you'd trust the UN - that enlightened body with its oil-for-food-skimming and "human rights" commission memberships for Sudan and Zimbabwe - ahead of our courts to protect your voting rights, I suggest you move to Sudan or Zimbabwe.
