I like Drezner… I seldom read the blog, because the blog format doesn’t excite me, but I try to read what he publishes. His article on outsourcing, in a recent issue of Foreign Affairs, should serve as the last word in that debate.

I can only agree, completely, with this:

the way we argue now has been shaped by cable news and Weblogs; it's all ''gotcha'' commentary and attributions of bad faith. No emotion can be too angry and no exaggeration too incredible.

The marketplace of ideas can be a very powerful thing, but when it degenerates into a shrieking food fight, very little wisdom emerges. I don’t see the threat to American democracy today coming from either the right or the left exclusively, but from excessive polarization, and from the domination of discourse by extremists on both sides.
