Intel Posts Profit; Lowers Margin Outlook

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) reported a higher quarterly profit and revenue on Tuesday, but its stock fell 4 percent after it cut its profit margin forecasts and said inventories rose.

The world's largest chip maker said inventories grew 15 percent in the past three months, which one analyst said could portend an asset write-down or weaker profit margins.

"What this implies is that they may have more capacity than they need to meet demand, and if that is the case, margins could deteriorate significantly," said Cary Nordan, an equity analyst with BB&T Asset Management.

"It could be a red flag," he added
