NAACP Head: "Black Conservatives are White Folks' Puppets" Booker Rising blog
Conservative black organizations are formed and funded by white Republicans, NAACP President Kweisi Mfume said yesterday in an address at the group's annual convention. "When the ultraconservative right-wing attacker has run out of attack strategy, he goes and gets someone that looks like you and me to continue the attacks."
There's more. Paraphrasing a line from a 2002 speech by NAACP Chairman Julian Bond, Mr. Mfume continued, "And like the ventriloquist's dummies, they sit there in the puppet master's voice, but we can see whose lips are moving, and we can hear his money talk." With some audience cheers, he said, "They can't deal with the leaders we choose for ourselves, so they manufacture, promote and hire new ones."
Since when did all blacks think alike? When did we vote on black "leaders"? Puhleeze! Now granted, some groups were formed as Mr. Mfume describes (e.g., even we question the African American Republican Leadership Council - how can such a council have almost no blacks on it?). However, most are not. And excuse us, who founded the NAACP? Wasn't W.E.B. DuBois damn near the only black among its founders? Who is in white Democrats' pockets? Who gets most of its funds from corporations - ahem, Wal-Mart, Shell, American Airlines, etc.? Funny how Mr. Mfume listed school vouchers - which 57% of blacks and 70% of those with kids support - as part of the conservative "attack" on black folks.
The NAACP is running scared, because it knows that it must reform or its days are numbered. Even folks in local chapters are getting restless, its numbers are dwindling because us younger blacks ain't buying their message. Even liberal Bill Cosby is showin' out. Rest assured fellow Bookeristas, the tide is turning back in our direction! And oh, Booker Rising is 100% independent - a claim that the NAACP cannot make.
