Diatec Develops Disposable Diaper Machine: California-based Diatec Recycling Technologies will begin testing a disposable diaper recycling machine in institutions this October. The self-contained unit opens the diaper, washes and heats the material and separates it into its pulp and plastic components. The unit can process about 60 disposable diapers per hour and reduce their volume by 95 percent. Diatec will market its institutional model to hospitals, child-care centres and nursing homes. It also plans to approach municipalities and envisions a franchising arm that could lead to machines in neighbourhood drop-off centres.
