It's just like you to not ask a real question. But you deflect the argument to a knee jerk issue which has no easy answer. Your whole way of debating is dishonest and I suspect that is just an extension of you. Intellectual dishonesty seems to be a requirement of being a conservative republican these days. You are one of the most intellectually dishonest debaters on SI.

In fact it was the issue of slavery and later equal rights that the federal government used to defeat the legitimate rights of all States under the constitution to govern themselves. Slavery was wrong. People should not be owned by other people. But using this issue the federal government usurped the rights of the states and increased the imperial federal government. And it has been full steam ahead ever since in Washington. And progressively ever since the states and then the people have had fewer and fewer rights to govern themselves as the fed takes over more and more.
