Structural lumber used in frame houses is from softwoods - like fir and pine. Hardwoods are for furniture, cabinets, stuff like that.

And there is nothing at all wrong with harvesting woods from national forests.

PS the "old growth forests" you may have in mind are not hardwood.

You should be careful throwing around the term simpleton. I don't think you know much about what you're talking about.
