An interesting comment about demand from a Juniper report today:

----

Tightening Service Provider Routing Capacity.

Adding to this strength
is the inexorable building pressures on the routed backbone and edge
routing infrastructure as data traffic continues to out pace the
growth of network capacity at the routed level. On the call Juniper
noted the growing tension in the network capacity, which resonates
with similar comments from Cisco and Nortel (NT--$4.76, 2S) made at
the recent SuperComm trade show. We consider the Nortel comments most
interesting because they came from a product manager of an application
product, which "is seeing difficulty in implementation and higher
quality of service requirements due to the tightness in routed
networking capacity". This Nortel manager had no axe to grind in the
router market and the comment was strictly in the context of VoIP
deployments.
