Yes, but i contend the commonly accepted definitions are a bit of theistic propaganda. Uncomfortable with the burden of proof they've tried to define it on to the non-believer. Non-theist and atheist are the same thing. The burden of proof remains with the theist.

As for science and god: science starts with the proposition that our universe can be explained entirely by wholly natural processes.

Fundamentalists reject that proposition out of hand. So science and fundamentalism are naturally at odds with each other.

If you look at human history, it's clear science is ascending while fundamentalism is dying. It couldn't be any other way since science is much more crucial to our survival as a species.

Pilch would argue that fundamentalism is the only path for the survival of our souls and that this world is meaningless.

So i suppose he's a nihilist really...
