Of course I paint myself into no corner at all. You here assume God gave us the gift of reason. So then you must assume God exists - since He had to exist to give the gift. Since He exists, then holding exclusively to applied atheism to inform ourselves of relevant knowledge is to deliberately ignore the ultimate source of knowledge that we have already claimed exists.

That is not faith at all. It is either a lie or schizophrenia. When applied atheists talk of God, they cannot possibly speak of the God of faith.

I wager that the vast majority of modern scientists, upward of 90-95%, are not only applied atheists but also philosophical atheists. They have to be in order to live integrated lives. The few remaining theistic scientists are true scientists on the order of Descartes and others, people who by Faith have knowledge of God and who by reason study His handiwork.
