With an excess inventory as the resuly of yield efficincies and a balance sheet like a rock - I suspect it is AMD that needs to sweat marketshare.

I think marketshare won't be the issue however.

Intc needs another player out ther and AMD has realized it can exist in niches, but must be nimble.

Intel doesn't wany monopoly problems - they've seen how expensive and distracting they are by watching Msft.

Last but not least Intel loves huge margins - they proved it with flash memory.Three quarters ago they bumped up prices and lost market share to AMD - the pimp on the discount block(JMHO).They were ahead of the demand curve and were criticized for it.Two quarters later they're on the money with 40% growth and no price reductions.

I suspect Intel is ahead of the curve on processor manufacturing efficiencies and 2 quarters from now they'll be cpnsidered brilliant and very profitable.

AMD has over the years lost a lot of money - Intel has no need or reason to watch what they do.
