Democratic presidents don't generally speak in front of conservative political groups that call the Dems "the dark underside of American culture". I don't see why Republicans should be different in this regard. Get back to me when Kerry addresses the annual meeting of a major right to life organization or the NRA or the American Conservative Union.


You touched on the problem exactly. Bush sees himself only as the president of the people who like him. That's why he can't unite the people behind him. If he were really trying to unite the American people, he would take all kind of steps that he is not doing now. From the get go, it was clear who Bush was talking to and it wasn't those us who didn't vote for him.

Thanks for articulating the point.......I hope it will help you to better understand the current divide in this nation.

BTW I doubt the NRA ever invited Clinton to speak. However, the NAACP did.......they are much less radical than the NRA and were trying to establish some credibility with a new president. Instead, Bush blew them off. Bush's behavior is really pretty lame when you stop and think about it.
