Would you find acceptable - or mitigating, to some extent, as an offshoot of simply accepting another individual's terminological 'preference' - a thief's explanation of why he stole a car as the item having not in fact been stolen, but "liberated"?

He'd surely prefer that perspective, and might even believe that he freed the item from an unwelcome or inappropriate owner. But was, in fact, the item 'liberated'?
