I'd love to see a cost-benefit calculation -- in the long run, what costs less and provides a better quality of life, gastric bypass surgery, or telling morbidly obese people to get some willpower? The surgery might cost as much as $20K. How much does treatment for complications of morbid obesity - diabetes, heart disease, cancer, arthritis, etc. - cost?
