It's clear who has a serious health insurance plan.

What's your definition of "serious"? <g>

<<If past patterns are any guide, about one in three Americans will go without health insurance for some part of the next two years. >>

The most fundamental problem with any analysis of health care proposals is the faulty notion that the objective is health insurance rather than health care. If you start your analysis in the wrong place, there is no recovery.

<<First, it offers a tax credit for low- and middle-income families who don't have health coverage through employers. >>

This has to be one of the dumber ideas around. If the premium is 9K and the tax credit is 3K, how many people will buy it? More than those who would buy it at 9K, surely, but how many more? I wouldn't. You'd have to expect your annual medical expenses to fall between 6 and 9K for that to be an incentive. That's just silly.

<<The other main component of the Bush plan involves "health savings accounts." >>

This makes more sense. It moves to distinguish between health insurance and health care, which is a Good Thing.

<<Mr. Kerry offers a health care plan that would extend coverage to most of those now uninsured, paid for by rolling back tax cuts for those with incomes over $200,000.>>

A slippery slope for which there is no soft landing.
